Abolish ICE! SLO County

Rally and vigil every Sunday between 10 am - 11:30 am at the corner of Hwy 1 and Kansas Avenue. Join us for a rally to protest ICE activity in our beloved community and to hold vigil for those in our community abducted by ICE. The sheriff chooses to allow ICE agents into the jail to abduct people despite CA laws that would allow him not to cooperate. Despite the Board’s vote to stop commandeering the jail to make warrantless arrests, it continues unabated. The SLOSO facilitates 3 to 4 ICE abductions of people released from the jail per week. They account for over half of all the kidnappings in the county. People are detained out the jail who are being cited and released pending arraignment. They are denied due process and are guilty of no crime. Kidnappings at the jail are no different than the kidnappings in our community. It IS happening here! ICE is in our community multiple times a week abducting people from the SLO County jail. Imagine you are waiting for a loved one to be released from the SLO county jail. But before you can be reunited with them, they are kidnapped by masked secret police from the jail right before your eyes. Everyone deserves the right to be released from the jail safely regardless of immigration status. People taken at the jail are being denied due process and legal representation. They are separated from their children, families and loved ones. Don't turn your back on what is happening in our community. Everyone who is released from the jail should be released regardless of where they were born. Bring large signs and banners centering calls for abolishing ICE and keeping it out of SLO and everywhere. If featuring signs with names of people murdered by ICE, please list all the people murdered by ICE. And the countless people harmed and disappeared whose names we do not know. Please stay off the road and stay safe. *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
