Terms of Use

Effective October 13, 2026. Questions: support@protestusa.com.

These terms are the agreement between you and ProtestUSA ("we", "us") for using protestusa.com. By using the site or making an account, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy and Community Guidelines are part of these terms.

What ProtestUSA is

ProtestUSA maps protests across the United States, analyzes public protest data, collects firsthand reports from people who were there, and hosts a public forum. We don't organize, sponsor or endorse any protest or organization listed on the site. Event information comes from public datasets (such as the Crowd Counting Consortium), organizers' public listings (such as Mobilize) and users. We're not affiliated with any of those sources, and the information may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Check details with organizers before you go.

Taking part in a protest is your own decision and at your own risk. Nothing on the site is legal advice. Know your rights and local rules, and plan for your safety.

Your account

  • You must be at least 13 years old to make an account.
  • One account per person. You confirm an email address and a US mobile number when you sign up, and they must be yours.
  • Your handle is public; don't use your real name if you don't want to be identified. Keep your password private. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms or the Community Guidelines, or to protect other people or the site.

What you post

  • You keep ownership of what you post: forum posts, reports, protests you add, photos and videos.
  • You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, adapt (for example, to strip location data or resize images) and share your content on and through the site and its public data feeds. The license ends when your content is removed, except for copies we're legally required to keep and anonymous totals that no longer include your content.
  • You're responsible for your content and promise you have the right to post it. Don't post anything that breaks the law or the Community Guidelines.
  • Posts, reports and uploads are public once a moderator approves them. Moderators may edit labels, decline or remove content at any time, and aren't obliged to host anything.

Text messages

Subscribers opt in at protestusa.com to receive verification messages from ProtestUSA. We send a text only when you ask for a verification code, so message frequency varies (usually one message per request). Text "HELP" for help. Text "STOP" to cancel.

Message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, contact your wireless provider.

For all questions about the services provided, you can email support@protestusa.com. If you have questions regarding privacy, please read our Privacy Policy.

If you believe content on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at support@protestusa.com with: your contact information; the work you say is infringed; the link to the material; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you're the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature.

If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. We remove content in response to valid notices and close the accounts of repeat infringers.

Donations

Donations pay for running the site and aren't payments for any service. Unless the support page says otherwise, they aren't tax-deductible. Third-party payment providers handle payments under their own terms.

Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, ProtestUSA and the people who run it aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for anything arising from content posted by users or third parties, events you attend, or your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims arising from your content or your breach of these terms, to the extent the law allows.

Changes and ending

We may update these terms; the effective date above will change, and for significant changes we'll post a notice on the site. You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@protestusa.com.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable US federal law. If part of them is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
