About
Bethel Municipal Center 11am-1pm Register here: https://mobilize.us/s/V096Eg Here are just some of the exciting things planned for the Bethel No Kings: Special Guest Speakers: Steve Kennedy Organizing and Network Director for People’s Parity Project (PPP), https://peoplesparity.org/team/steve-kennedy/ Check it out: https://peoplesparity.org/ “Lawyers Building a Legal Profession That Fights for Democracy” https://peoplesparity.org/new-ppp-report-no-kings-the-urgent-need-for-court-reform/ PPP is organizing working groups of law students and lawyers who are committed to ensuring our profession is on the right side of history. Steve Kennedy is an organizer and lawyer whose current work focuses on democratizing the legal system as the Organizing Director at the People's Parity Project. Steve's writing can also be seen in national outlets like the New Republic, Slate, Talking Points Memo, Liberal Currents, and more. Steve will discuss how community organizing and electoral mobilization support one another and how we can learn from historical movements to face our current crisis. Drawing on the history of the struggle for voting rights in the South since Reconstruction, his experience organizing to protect Allison Riggs’s victory in North Carolina’s Supreme Court election, and the sustained civic engagement of Bethel Defends Democracy since Donald Trump's second election, he will explore how people power can defend democratic institutions against attacks on political participation. The talk will examine how sustained, grassroots organizing builds the relationships, collective capacity and civic infrastructure necessary to protect democracy, both at the ballot box and in our communities, and how we can all fight for our democracy in the coming election. Steve is well published! Here are some of his recent articles: https://newrepublic.com/article/213270/right-forever-war-solidarity-uconn https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2025/12/dear-troops-jail-for-pete-hegseth.html https://talkingpointsmemo.com/cafe/the-real-logic-behind-the-gops-new-push-for-judicial-elections https://www.liberalcurrents.com/callais-affects-more-than-just-congress/ Nancy Ryan What could be better than to have such a longtime local election expert talk to us about our voting rights! Nancy will talk about the three basic voting options we have in CT and how it is safe and secure. She is a lifelong Bethel resident and worked for over 20 years as an Election Official in Bethel. She held various pollworker positions during that time including being a Certified Lever Machine Mechanic when we still used those. Nancy also spent four years as Deputy Registrar of Voters and then six years as Registrar of Voters Administrator of Elections. She continues to work for the current registrar of voters when needed. She also served the town as a member of the Public Site and Building Commission for over 20 years and chair for 10. Featured Musicians: Greg Golda: Gregory J. Golda has been the inspiration for having live musicians at our Bethel rallies. It started in April 2025 when Greg asked to play a song at our “Spread Love, Note Hate" rally and we were all introduced to a fantastic rendition of (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding, by Elvis Costello. Since then Greg has introduced us to so many amazing performers. He also sets up the PA for us and is a frequent speaker himself. Our very own Renaissance man! Greg is a Clinical Instructor in the School of Communication, Media & the Arts at Sacred Heart University, where he has taught since 1999. He earned his M.A. in Broadcast Journalism and Digital Media Production from Sacred Heart University (2019), his M.Ed. in Art Education from Penn State (1998), and his B.A. from Buffalo State College (1997). Golda teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in multimedia production, television, and media theory, with an emphasis on project-based learning, creativity, and the ethical use of technology. His research and teaching interests include technological democratization, media literacy, and the relationship between media and democracy. Beyond the classroom, Golda is an active media producer and founder of Construkt Media Studios. His recent work includes Future Focus, Project: Activate, and numerous collaborations with artists and musicians across Connecticut. His most recent public appearance was as a guest of CT State Senator Saud Anwar, discussing media literacy initiatives for K–12 schools on CT-N.com. Lorraine McGuire: We are always happy when Lorraine McGuire offers to provide live music for our weekly rallies and she has become a valued No Kings performer with her soulful, emotional, powerful ballads. Lorraine is a local talent so besides the rallies you may have heard her when dining out in local restaurants. Lorraine's love of singing and performing started at an early age and included a love of musical theatre. In her college years, she mastered touring New…
