About
Join The Beacon for Thursday Shine the Light, as we bring our voices to the street every Thursday from 6:00-6:30 PM. Each week, we make our voices heard wherever we are. As beacons, we shine light by making a sign and bringing it outside. Don't have a sign? Don't worry! You can borrow one of ours. Together, we are building visible resistance and organized compassion, meeting our neighbors, and joining together in acts of solidarity. We find joy in resistance through community, music, comedy and street theater. Across the country, communities are organizing to disentangle local law enforcement from federal immigration enforcement. When local police or sheriffs collaborate with ICE, it undermines trust, separates families, and makes all of us less safe. Here in Nassau County, families continue to live in terror of separation, detainment, detention and deportation. We stand weekly in opposition to this unprecedented assault on the rights, safety, and economic security of people in this country. For 30 minutes every Thursday, we say ICE OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES! ICE OUT FOR GOOD! and we stand in favor of compassionate democracy and against cruelty, fear and despair. People that come together in solidarity and say NO to ICE are a critical bulwark against mass deportations and the erosion of civil rights. There is much that we can do locally. And there is much that our elected officials can do — if we demand courage and leadership. Join us! There are Beacon groups all over the USA. Our local Great Neck group meets every Thursday from 6:00-6:30 pm. We are joined by the Singing Resistance Great Neck to sing songs of solidarity and resistance, old and new. For more information on The Beacon, visit www.beaconfordemocracy.org A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property. Nonviolent at all times and lawful activities only Community-led and locally grounded Respectful of those grieving Focused on accountability, not spectacle Daytime events only
