About
This Día de los Muertos, join us to honor and remember the lives taken by ICE and Border Patrol — and to demand an end to the violence. Join us as we mark one year of gathering every Sunday outside the Pinellas Justice Center as part of the broader national call to action through Disappeared in America. For a full year, people of faith and community members have gathered weekly to bear witness and call for an end to detention without due process, justice for immigrants, an end to 287(g) agreements, and more. This anniversary vigil will include an ofrenda, music, and a welcome back to the faith leaders who have led vigils throughout the past year. We’ll take time to look back at what we have built together — reflecting on the goals we set, the work we have done, and the successes and lessons of this past year — and to look ahead to the work still to come. As we join this national call to action, we’ll come together in movement and community, renewing our commitment to the work ahead. Co-sponsored by the LWV of the St. Petersburg area, Interfaith Alliance of Florida, and Indivisible chapters across Pinellas County, Florida. We'll gather and grieve publicly for the people who have died in ICE custody and been killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents, drawing on the Día de los Muertos tradition of honoring loved ones. This action is part of End the ICE Age, a national day of action happening in cities across the country October 31–November 2. We're demanding Congress get ICE out of our communities, redirect ICE funding, and shut down ICE detention centers for good. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
