About

This Día de los Muertos (Sunday Nov 1st), join us to honor and remember the lives taken by ICE and Border Patrol — and to demand an end to the violence. 4:45-5:30PM SUNSET VIGIL AT THE GC JAIL 2:00-4:00PM We will be making paper lanterns for each detainee that has been through the jail. 1515 S National Ave. Springfield, MO 65804 We will gather at the Greene County Sheriffs Office & Jail at sunset for a Vigil where we will display an illuminated lantern each of the >5,800 people who have been taken from our community. Prior to this, we will be assembling the lanterns and other parts of the memorials from 2-4pm at 1515 S National Ave. Springfield. Various churches around Springfield will also be making illuminated bags with the names of each of the >5,800 detainees who have been detained/deported through our jail to honor each person who has been detained in the Greene County Jail. Bag making will take place during or following service at various churches and will be displayed outside the churches. We will then gather the displays and bring them to the Greene County Jail for a sunset vigil. We'll gather and grieve publicly for the people who have died in ICE custody and been killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents, drawing on the Día de los Muertos tradition of honoring loved ones. We will also grieve for those who have not died, but whose lives here have ended because of the work of ICE and the Greene County Sheriff. This action is part of End the ICE Age, a national day of action happening in cities across the country October 31–November 2. We're demanding Congress get ICE out of our communities, redirect ICE funding, and shut down ICE detention centers for good. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1JkecqPZed/
