Tell Broome County: Homes not Hotels!

Thursday, July 16, 2026, 5:00 PM EDT
Legislature Clerk, Binghamton, New York

About

Housing is a Human Right! Join us on July 16th at the next Broome County Legislature meeting to demand accountability and proactive solutions from our County government. It’s time that we take immediate action to provide for the victims of the fire, broaden the county’s initiative to address houselessness, and address the housing crisis head on. We demand that Broome County take real steps to address the housing crisis, immediately: Immediate Response for Fire Victims: 1. Provide immediate supportive housing 2. Prioritize permanent housing placements over motel stays 3. Work with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to secure immediate authorization for special housing allowances and emergency flexibility. Broaden Houselessness Initiative: 1. Expand approach to all individuals housed in hotels and motels 2. Increase rental subsidies and housing allowances 3. Fund and invest in supportive services 4. Pass countywide Good Cause legislation to prevent evictions and rent hikes
