About

Please join the Democracy Defenders subcommittee of the Manassas & Manassas Park Cities Democratic Committee for a Sunday evening community gathering and visibility protest outside Manassas Park City Hall. The fight to protect voting rights never ends, and right now, we’re witnessing a Jim-Crow-era effort from politicians and their billionaire friends to restrict our freedoms, silence our voices, and consolidate power. But in America, we choose our leaders. We will decide our future. The same spirit that fueled Selma, Montgomery, and the March on Washington lives on in our unified action. Six years after the passing of Congressman Lewis, we're organizing an event in our community to carry the torch, continue the legacy of John Lewis, and pass it forward to future generations. Join us! We will stand with protest signs on the NORTH sidewalks of Manassas Drive, between Bank St and the railroad tracks. Our event marshals, wearing orange vests, will indicate the limits of the permitted sidewalks. For your safety, please stand back from the roadway at all times, and do not stand in any crosswalk or driveway. Ample free parking will be available in the surface parking lots for Manassas Park City Hall, the VRE parking garage, and the VRE parking lot off Railroad Drive. Public restrooms, food, and beverages will be available inside nearby restaurants. Our event headquarters will be beneath a blue popup canopy tent on the plaza on the west side of City Hall. Visit our headquarters to learn about various local political activities and to create or pick up a handmade protest sign if you need one. The plaza area will also feature recorded protest songs, lawn games, and light refreshments. If you have one, please bring a small handheld American flag and a protest sign that speaks to your issue(s). Patriotic attire and costumes are welcome, but optional. In addition, bring a water bottle, dress for the weather, and bring a chair if you’d like, Reach out if you have any questions, and please spread the word! ### Check the weather forecast before arrival. This event may be cancelled in advance if thunderstorms are likely. ### IMPORTANT: We have received a public gathering permit from the City of Manassas Park to conduct this event. Participants must obey all pedestrian and traffic laws and may not interfere with the movements of vehicles or pedestrians. Our event marshals, wearing orange vests, will act to de-escalate any potential incidents of harassment, vandalism, or violence. If you see something, say something. If the City requires us to modify our plans, we will notify event registrants in advance via email. Good Trouble Lives On is a non-partisan weekend of action. We require that participants commit to not advocate for, endorse, or oppose any political candidate or ballot initiative. *A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
