About

This a local Indivisible event! Congressman John Lewis coined the term “Good Trouble” to describe his life’s work of protecting voting rights for all Americans. To honor the legacy of Congressman Lewis, many towns across the country are joining together to mark the sixth anniversary of Lewis’ passing with a unified, nationwide weekend of peaceful actions. In that regard Estes Park is organizing a peaceful demonstration on the south sidewalk by Bond Park on Saturday, July 18, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. As we have seen, the work of protecting our voting rights never ends. Right now, we’re witnessing Jim-Crow-era efforts by politicians and their billionaire friends to restrict our freedoms, silence our voices, and consolidate power. The Voting Rights Act of 1965, the extraordinary achievement of Lewis and many other Civil Rights leaders, has been decimated by today’s politicians and the Supreme Court. But in our America, we still choose our leaders and we decide our future. The same spirit that fueled the actions of John Lewis in Selma, Montgomery, and the March on Washington lives on in these peaceful actions. In the words of John Lewis: “A protest is an act of love, not anger.” Come join your friends and neighbors in this peaceful demonstration on July 18 to support our voting rights. *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
