About

On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo lost his life. He was not a criminal, but a hardworking married father of 3 Texans living in Houston. He left his house to go to work, carrying some workers in his truck. He did not know that ICE had been watching his house and, as they do so often, ICE made a mistake, thinking they had found the suspect they wanted. They had not. But instead of checking, they chased him in two unmarked cars, an understandably frightening situation for a man in the barrio. Somehow, ICE shot him and then immediately lied about what happened. This event shows how, from Houston TX to Biddeford, Maine, government enforcers are out of control and reckless with innocent people's lives. Indivisible Northwest Arkansas mourns the passing of Mr. Araujo and the loss of him to his family and his community. We mourn the wastefulness of a bureaucratic mistake leading to the death of a person in a targeted minority, and we mourn the hypocrisy of a democratic government lying from the outset to try to cover up their mistakes instead of being transparent and admitting them. John Lewis would have used this moment to speak up for this vulnerable group, and so do we. Six years after the passing of Congressman Lewis, we're organizing this vigil in our community to carry the torch, continue the legacy of John Lewis, and pass it forward to future generations. Join us in a vigil for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and all those hurt and killed by ICE. 5:30-7 Washington County Courthouse, 280 N. College Ave., Fayetteville AR. Rev. Jim Parrish will speak briefly about the importance of community, and we will educate on current Indivisible Northwest Arkansas initiatives for voting rights, a key way to limit government sanctioned violence. Good Trouble Lives On is a non-partisan weekend of action. We require that participants commit to not advocate for, endorse, or oppose any political candidate or ballot initiative. A core principle behind all Good Trouble Lives On events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
