About
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24: The Indivisible Progressive Mass Cambridge Social Security Working Group will be hosting weekly visibility events to protect Social Security from further devious service cuts, and to show our objection to cuts in our other safety net programs, on Thursday, August 20, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, at Fresh Pond Parkway by the entrance sign to the parking lot of Whole Foods Market. While this administration has spent 1B per day fighting a senseless war of choice in Iran, we’ve seen cutbacks to Medicaid. Some 7.5 million people were expected to lose coverage due to changes to the public health insurance program, along with more complicated and more frequent paperwork, and SNAP—The Big, Ugly Bill cuts SNAP by nearly $187 billion through 2034, the largest cut to the program in history. Social Security is on the chopping block too, with 7K employees laid off, some rural offices closed, and long wait times on the phone to connect with customer service. Trump's administration keeps calling it an "entitlement program!" It is not; it is an earned income program, and House Speaker Mike Johnson talks openly about cutting the program if Republicans win the House. Let's voice our opposition to this devastating cruelty toward ordinary Americans! We’ll have people holding signs about Social Security, SNAP and other safety net programs. Other signs related to this theme are welcome. If we have enough people, some will hold the Burma-Shave-style sequential signs with jingle lines, and a banner. We'd like to show our solidarity with everyone affected by the cruel cuts to our safety net programs. Public Transportation: Red Line to Alewife Station; Buses #74 or #78 from Harvard Square. Parking is available in the Fresh Pond Mall. (Do not park across the street at CVS or Trader Joe's, or you will probably get ticketed.) If it's hot, please use sunscreen and hydrate! Ground is fairly level. Hope to see you there!
