On Saturday, July 25th, Cibolo Creek Indivisible TX will host a vigil as part of the National Day of Action. Community members will gather at Kendall County Democratic Party Headquarters at 9:00 a.m. to honor the lives of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero and to call for independent, transparent investigations into their deaths. We will hold a silent walking vigil for them in downtown Boerne. This vigil follows two recent killings. On July 7th, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a beloved father and worker, was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston, Texas, while driving a work van. On July 13th, 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine was shot and killed by ICE agents in front of his partner and toddler. Our community stands with the families of Lorenzo and Johan to call for full, independent investigations. We want transparency that includes cooperation from all law enforcement agencies and accountability for misconduct. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
