About
We invite anyone to speak to share their grief, their prayers, their anger, their fears as we gather on Kanawha Boulevard in front of the WV Capitol to display our signs of protest to those who drive by. On July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston while driving a work van with his crew. On July 13, ICE fatally shot 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine — his wife and toddler forced to witness his murder. Both men were beloved members of their communities, killed on their way to work. Join us for a vigil to demand Justice for Lorenzo. Justice for Johan. Justice for All. ICE Out. A component of our mission is to support marginalized communities and we invite people to bring food, clothing and hygiene products to events for us to donate. Now we are partnering with a new organization, Appalachian Change Makers (ACM), to serve those who need help throughout the state. We invite you to bring your donation to any of our events in a bag or box whether you plan to participate in the event or not. One of our volunteers will take your donation and we will get it to ACM Instead of "Request for Donations": how about What West Virginians Need Drinking water: (minimum 1 gallon container) Dry Goods: cereal, rice, dry beans, canned goods, etc. Personal hygiene products such as soap, tooth brushes/paste, mouthwash feminine hygiene products, etc. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.*
