About

The murders of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Guerrero have become a national call to conscience. On Tuesday, July 7, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Houston, Texas. He was a dad driving a work van with his crew when he was gunned down. Then on Monday, July 13, ICE unleashed the same horrific tactics, fatally shooting 26-year-old Johan Sebastian Guerrero when they stopped his vehicle in Biddeford, Maine. His wife and toddler were forced to witness his murder. Lorenzo and Johan were beloved members of their communities who were killed on their way to work– one to a job site, the other to start his day as a food delivery driver. Both killed by ICE agents spreading fear, sowing chaos and inflicting violence. Communities across the country are being called to hold vigils to mourn Lorenzo and Johan, stand with his family and coworkers, tell the truth about what happened, and demand accountability. Vigils of every size can help ensure that Lorenzo’s and Johan’s killings do not fade from public attention and can send a clear moral message: no government agency should be allowed to kill, intimidate witnesses, or operate without independent oversight. LYNCHBURG and CENTRAL VA: Join us INDOORS at First Christian Church this Sunday, August 2nd at 7 PM to honor Johan Sebastian Guerrero, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Keith Porter, Jr., Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and every other life that was extinguished through violent ICE-related activities. Participants are encouraged to bring: - A bell for the ringing of bells in memory of victims - An item for the memorial table, such as flowers, candles, written prayers, messages, photos, or other meaningful tributes. - Signs (no poles or sticks per state law) A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
