Lapeer County Historical Courthouse, Lapeer, Michigan

About

On July 7th Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot by ICE in his vehicle on his way to a job site in Houston Texas. Lorenzo died from his injuries. He was 52 years old. Again on July 13th another Hispanic man going to work, Johan Sebastian Guerrero, was shot and killed in his car on his way to work. He was 25. His death occurred in the town of Biddeford Maine. Neither men were the target of investigations but both men died horrifically from their brief encounters with ICE. Both men leave behind children and other grieving loved ones. At least 23 people have been shot by federal immigration agents since last year, The New York Times reports. Six people, which includes three U.S citizens, have died from these shootings. This does not mention the already 22 dead in ICE detention as of July 15th per the National Immigration Project. Please join with us as we mourn as a community for those we have lose far too soon. Come together with us in the hope that in our collective grief and pain we can find healing and a path forward to a more just and equitable future where tragedies such as this no longer happen. Let us remember and honor those taken from us so no one else will be! The vigil will take place at 7 pm on the historic courthouse lawn in downtown Lapeer.
