Stop the BGE Rate Hike Rally
Tuesday, August 11, 2026, 10:00 AM EDT
BGE Headquarters (Center Plaza), Baltimore, Maryland
About
For years, BGE has raised our bills while posting strong profits. Now they're asking regulators to approve another $156 million electric rate hike, and an even higher profit rate. Enough is enough. Families are already making impossible choices between paying their utility bill and paying for groceries, medicine, or rent. Seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and vulnerable Marylanders are being squeezed while BGE keeps asking for more. Now, after months of problems with BGE's customer service, power shut-offs have resumed for customers who have fallen behind on their bills—even in the middle of a dangerous Maryland summer. No one should have to fear losing electricity during extreme heat because utility bills have become unaffordable. Join Progressive Maryland and our coalition partners as we rally outside BGE's headquarters before the Public Service Commission's first hearing on this proposed rate hike. Together, we'll demand that regulators reject another unfair increase and put Marylanders ahead of utility profits. At the rally, we'll: * Demand the Public Service Commission reject BGE's proposed rate hike. * Call on regulators to stop rewarding excessive utility profits while customers pay more. * Stand with Maryland families who deserve reliable, affordable energy. * Walk together to the Public Service Commission hearing following the rally (optional). This fight couldn't come at a more important moment. While Marylanders struggle with rising energy costs, the Public Service Commission has hired its new communications director directly from Pepco, another Exelon-owned utility. That's exactly why public pressure matters. The people who pay the bills deserve to be heard. Bring your voice. Bring a friend. Together we can send a clear message: Maryland families cannot afford another BGE rate hike.
