About

📢 Tyranny Tuesday — 🚨 Trump is Stealing From US! Bombs vs Benefits? Every dollar Washington sends to replenish bombs is a dollar it did not send to a hungry family, a sick grandmother, or a struggling state budget. On July 21, 2026, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared before the Senate Appropriations Committee to ask for a supplemental package of roughly $87.6 billion to sustain the war with Iran, with $67.1 billion of it earmarked for the Pentagon and $21 billion of that specifically set aside to replace munitions the military has burned through during weeks of continuous strikes. Hegseth has already told Congress the war has cost at least $37.5 billion since it reignited, and outside estimates suggest the true bill could climb far higher before the shooting stops. This is money the country is being asked to find on short notice, with no formal congressional authorization for the war itself and no clear exit strategy in sight. At the same time, the safety net that low-income, elderly, and disabled Americans depend on is being cut. Congressional Republicans' budget blueprint calls for at least $880 billion in Medicaid cuts and $230 billion in SNAP cuts over the next decade, translating into roughly $95 billion in lost federal funding in 2026 alone. Independent analysis from the Commonwealth Fund and George Washington University projects that these cuts could cost more than a million jobs nationwide, shrink state economies by over $100 billion, and strip food or health coverage from millions of families who did nothing to deserve it. In other words: the same government finding tens of billions of dollars almost overnight to restock missiles is, in the same season, telling struggling Americans there isn't enough money to keep them fed or insured. President Eisenhower, a five-star general who understood the true price of arms better than almost anyone who has held the presidency, warned the country about exactly this choice in his 1953 "Chance for Peace" speech. He said that every warship and rocket represents, in a very real sense, "a theft from those who hunger and are not fed." He argued that a nation pouring its wealth into weapons while its own people go without is not truly spending on defense at all, but robbing its own future. Seventy-three years later, his warning reads less like history and more like a description of this week's headlines. The question facing Congress, and every constituent who calls their senator's office, is whether America will keep choosing the missile over the meal.
