About

Indy Resistance Broad Ripple, in collaboration with Indivisible and the Indiana Organizing Project, is holding a public witness event in Greenfield Sat, 8/29 11 AM - 1 PM (State St. and McKenzie Rd., https://maps.app.goo.gl/xCh6wgiBP4nbdMNK9). We gather to protest the unjust and unconstitutional arrest and detention of individuals who are not convicted or charged with crimes. 70% of ICE detainees have no criminal record, and some lawful residents have minor misdemeanor convictions that are years old. Children are separated from parents (many are citizens); husbands from wives - families are being traumatized, for WHAT? WHY IS OUR GOVERNMENT DOING THIS TO HARD-WORKING PEOPLE, MANY OF WHOM ARE OUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND NEIGHBORS ? Our state is holding approximately 600 ICE detainees inside am Miami Correctional Facility, a state-run, maximum-security prison with plans to expand to 1,000 beds. Indiana is actually losing taxpayer money on a severely understaffed facility where basic medical care is scarce and two detainees have already died this year. Please join us to demonstrate your moral commitment to justice. Plenty of parking nearby. Help us publicly witness and expose the cruelty our government is inflicting on our neighbors. RSVP before 8/23 if you are interested in free transportation from Broad Ripple Area and back. A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
