About
Anderson County is having an important public conversation about Flock license plate reader cameras — and we need people in the room. These cameras can record where vehicles are seen, when they are seen, license plate numbers, vehicle descriptions, and other identifying information. That raises serious questions about privacy, civil liberties, government surveillance, who has access to this data, and what protections exist when that access is abused. And we already know misuse can happen here. In Oak Ridge, a former police officer pleaded guilty to official misconduct after improperly accessing systems including Flock for personal purposes. This is the moment to ask questions — before expanded surveillance becomes something we simply learn to live with. If you care about privacy, accountability, or the limits we place on government power, please show up. Bring a friend. Fill the room. The people making these decisions need to see that Anderson County residents are paying attention. Your privacy is worth an hour of your time. Be there.
