About

Labor Day Weekend in the US it marks the official end of summer and has become know for back to school picnics and barbeques, BUT it began as a way to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. Beginning in the late 19th century, as the trade union and labor movements grew, trade unionists proposed that a day be set aside to celebrate labor. "Labor Day" was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, which organized the first parade in New York City. It became an official federal holiday in 1894, celebrated on the first Monday in September. Today, workers rights are under attack by the current Administration and Corporate America. A living wage with proper benefits that were status quo a couple generations ago, thanks to the hard fought battles of many laborers that unionized and trickled over into non-union fields, are now gone for many families or severely decreased. Let's come together to Celebrate Workers and call out the inequity in income distribution that continues in our Country, with our messages of "People Over Profits" and "Healthcare for All". *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
