About

Poll workers – the everyday folks who run our elections – are the backbone of our elections here in Iowa. Without them, we don’t have a democracy. That’s why, in July, we were shocked to learn about the arrest of Joey Norris for his work as a poll worker in Montgomery County. Joey pointed out mistakes in the absentee counting process of the 2024 election. The county auditor didn’t like that, and asked him to leave the counting room, which Joey did. He thought that was the end of it. But twenty months later, in July of this year, he was arrested and charged with felony election misconduct by Attorney General Brenna Bird’s office. Our election process relies on poll workers to do the right thing – but in this case, a poll worker is being charged with a felony for rightfully asking questions. Aren’t poll workers who notice election rules being ignored supposed to speak up? Joey’s lawyer has filed a motion to dismiss the charges. There is a hearing on that motion this Monday at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Red Oak. We are gathering outside the courthouse before the hearing to say loud and clear that we won’t stand for this attack on Joey, and on our democracy. Can you join us this Monday in Red Oak to demand Justice for Joey? This case is a politically motivated attack on our democracy that affects every voter in Iowa. Brenna Bird needs to see that Iowans won’t stand for Trump-style attacks on poll workers. We hope you can join us. Hosted by Southwest Iowa Indivisible and CCI Action.
