Peekskill, NY: Rally to Stop the Enbridge Pipeline Expansion

Peekskill, New York
About
**Rally with us to oppose Project Beacon!** For years, Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam communities have fought against the expansion to the so-called Algonquin Pipeline that runs through New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island delivering gas to the Northeast states. The pipeline was built in 2016 _within 105 feet of critical safety structure at the Indian Point Nuclear power plant._ It is now owned by Enbridge, the same company responsible for the largest inland oil spill in U.S. history, and known for repeated safety and environmental violations and trespassing on Indigenous lands. **Enbridge is pushing to expand the pipeline and increase the pressure moving gas through the pipeline, calling this new proposal “Project Beacon.”** This project could include replacing existing pipe with larger diameter pipe, adding NEW pipeline loops parallel to the existing pipelines, and adding to existing compressor stations. This is a dangerous proposal that will result in increased air pollution from compressor stations (including nitrous oxide and the carcinogen benzene) and higher utility bills. The CEO of Enbridge has even boasted that he wants to use fracked gas to power data centers. Rep. Lawler so far refuses to oppose Project Beacon. He voted to cut clean energy tax credits and clean water protections, leading to higher utility bills and more pollution in Peekskill. He has accepted over $50,000 from Big Oil & Gas interests and voted to fast-track the approval of fracked gas pipelines and take away local community input on these projects. **Join New York Communities for Change, Climate Families Westchester, and Food & Water Watch for a rally in Peekskill to call on Rep. Lawler to say NO to Project Beacon and fracked gas pipelines!**
