About
# Indivisible Orange is strongly AGAINST Orange becoming a Charter City! ## MEET US AT CITY HALL ON TUES EVENING, 10/6, TO HELP INFLUENCE VOTERS TO VOTE NO ON MEASURE K! **What is Measure K? It is REALLY a Term Limit Extension Measure, a Power Grab by the current City Council!** ***Measure K...*** * Allows current City Council Members a free pass on years already served. If approved, we could see the current council in power until 2040 & beyond. (sec 503) * Measure was placed on the ballot by a tight 4-3 vote with “YES” votes by council members Slater, Tavoularis (who authored the measure!), Dumitru, Bilodeau and “NO” votes by Barrios, Gutierrez, Gyllenhammar. * Applies Lifetime Term Limits prospectively – current city council can continue to stay in power & anyone who has ever served can return. (sec 503) * Increases City Council Member terms by 50%. (sec 501) Increases Mayor terms from 6 years to 8 years, increasing each individual term by 100%. (sec 500) * Increases total allowed years served from 14 to 20 years, if someone serves as both a council member & mayor. (sec 500, 501) **Orange voters need to ask themselves ONE question. Is this the City Council YOU want to be in power until 2040? If the answer is no, Vote No on Measure K!** ***Measure K…*** * Will not eliminate the requirement to uphold state housing requirements. (sec 203) * Has NO independent committee or community oversight and was rushed to fool voters. * Could keep rent costs high, including those of seniors, veterans, and working families. (sec 603) * Historically, Charter Cities have higher legal costs, which could result in higher taxes and reduced public service in Orange. **More reasons why we don’t need a charter:** * Orange has a park acreage deficit; State law and local zoning already protects our open space. * Orange already protects private property from being seized by City government to give to another private property owners. * State law already requires a balanced budget & an independent audit. Orange can impose lifetime term limits without becoming a charter city. *HELP INDIVISIBLE ORANGE EDUCATE OUR NEIGHBORS ABOUT HOW A CHARTER CITY WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT ALL OF US AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO VOTE NO ON MEASURE K!*
