About
Let's spend some of this federal holiday (Indigenous People Day) together: You're invited to a poster-making party to create your signs for our upcoming "No Kings - Vote Early" event on Oct. 17. Plus, after Oct 17th we'll have lots more events where you can use your new posters too ...right up to Election Day. We'll have lots of supplies for you! Poster paper, glue, markers, construction paper and tape have already been purchased for your use. However, anything you can bring to contribute to the effort will be gratefully received. Your homework for this event? Please think of a short, positive message about voting. Remember, Oct 17th event is not a protest! It will be an apolitical rally to persuade people to vote early! Can't think of anything? Don't worry. We'll have ideas for you. If you will need scissors, please bring them with you. If you plan on gluing pictures onto your sign, please print or cut them out at home and bring them with you. FYI, thanks to some young future voters and a few chapter adults, we have repurposed old campaign yard signs too as one of the bases for your creativity. This event is being hosted in a residential area near downtown Phoenix. We'll be creating our works of art in a residential garage and/or driveway depending on weather. The exact address will be provided to attendees closer to the event. (Popcorn, Jamaica and cinnamon iced tea will be available but additional snack offerings are welcome.) A core principle behind all Desert Democracy events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
