About

This a local Indivisible event! Please join us Saturday October 17 at 10 am for a Rally at the Gazebo to encourage Early Voting and teach voter literacy in Tahlequah at Norris Park. Here you can enjoy visiting the booths of civic and community organizations on issues affecting us locally: Nuclear waste repository, data center, bitcoin mining in defensively significant locations by foreign corporations, our recent victory on the removal of flock cameras, sovereignty issues affecting tribal governments, gerrymandering reapportionments, the Illinois River, voter safety, and how to navigate Oklahoma's election law deadlines aimed at suppressing the votes of busy and working class voters. Even if you are not registered to vote, you can start the process for future elections after midterms, or get help if you requested an Absentee Ballot. You can find information about what each candidate stands for. You can enjoy live music by local bands. And of course we urge you to make a sign, bring a sign and a buddy, bring a chair and water and dress for the ever-changing weather. Children and dogs are welcome! We'll have a really free market for shopping. Each group will check in the the Emcee on stage to speak for 5 minutes. There will be recruiting for college groups, speeches about subjects of interest, and the debut performance of the Ukes For Democracy, our new decidedly cool Ukellelle Orchestra. We have signs you can use if you don't bring one. All protestors should remain in the Park and not drift over into the parking spaces, sidewalks of businesses or block doorways. Individuals promise to remain at least 10 feet from the curb and stay alert. (In Oklahoma it is a defense to manslaughter if a vehicle driver is in subjective personal fear regardless of how objectively non-threatening the scenario, so listen to your safety lead Vicki Creel and our safety team. There is level ground for handicapped access. I understand the restrooms may be reopened by now. And there is parking on all 4 sides of the square. If you are able-bodied, consider hiking in to leave more space for elders and for stage drop-offs and for clubs unloading their canopies and tables. If your civic group club or organization would like to have a canopy and booth, bring it! (Canopies and tables must be on the grass, not the sidewalk.) We encourage you to speak your peace on a sign of your choosing, but in order to host a welcoming place for children it is preferred that signs avoid the use of cursing. No weapons allowed. Remain alert, avoid interacting with detractors attempting to provoke media attention in a bad light. Our nonviolence trainer will talk about that from the Norris Park Gazebo Stage. *A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.*
