About
This Día de los Muertos, join us to honor and remember the lives taken by ICE and Border Patrol — and to demand an end to the violence. We'll gather and grieve publicly for the people who have died in ICE custody and been killed by ICE and Border Patrol agents, drawing on the Día de los Muertos tradition of honoring loved ones. In particular, we will remember Santos Banegas Reyes, a day laborer who was arrested by ICE in Hempstead and died in the Nassau County Correctional Center within less than 24 hours. We demand justice for Santos, freedom for all those detained without due process, and that local elected officials take immediate action to get ICE OUT of Hempstead! This action is part of End the ICE Age, a national day of action happening in cities across the country October 31–November 2. A core principle behind all Disappeared In America events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
