About

Join the Planting Team in Wheeler! The Salmonberry Trail is almost ready to open, and we need your help with the finishing touches! Come join our team of volunteers as we plant native and drought-tolerant plants along Wheeler’s new trail segment. This is the first coastal section of the 82-mile Salmonberry Trail Rails and Trails project—a wonderful opportunity to create a welcoming, beautiful trail for residents, visitors, and wildlife. 🌿 What will we be doing? Plants have been selected and locations planned. The planting process is straightforward, and everyone can help! Unpot each plant and check its roots. Score the roots if needed to encourage healthy growth. Dig a hole where needed (some holes will be prepared in advance SO EVERY physical capability can help!). Place the plant in its designated location. Backfill with soil and add mulch to help retain moisture and support healthy growth. Water each plant in to give it a good start and help settle the soil around its roots. No special gardening experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and a desire to make a difference! 🌼 Why come? Together, we can: Create native habitat for birds, bees, and butterflies, providing food, shelter, and support for local pollinators and wildlife. Add natural beauty and greenery to the trail. Help make the Salmonberry Trail a welcoming destination for our community and visitors. Every plant we put in the ground is an investment in Wheeler’s future! Can you spare a few hours on November 21? Bring a friend, meet your neighbors, and help us grow something wonderful! 🧤 Bring: Gardening gloves, sturdy shoes, and a water bottle. Planting tools and supplies will be provided as available. Let’s plant the future of the Salmonberry Trail—one plant at a time! 🌱 If you are coming from the Portland Metro area, let us know if you need to carpool with someone and will help arrange a ride!
